Please note: Credit and debit cards used to pay online may not be acceptable at certain locations. Please check the terms and conditions on your reservation confirmation to be sure of acceptable cards at the location where you are picking up your rental. The credit or debit card presented at the counter must be identical to the one used to make the "Pay Now" reservation.
Debit Card Policies
Most U.S. locations accept bank debit cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo as credit identification at the time of rental if you are at least 25 years of age. In most cases, U.S. locations will perform a credit check for debit card renters to determine credit worthiness at the time of rental. The renter must meet Avis' minimum criteria in order to rent. Currently, at all U.S. and Canada locations, debit cards are not acceptable as credit identification at the time of rental for all makes and models identified in the Avis Signature Series and for certain other premium vehicles. Debit cards are also not acceptable as credit identification at the time of rental at locations in the Metropolitan NY Tri-State area, Hartford, CT, Philadelphia area, Mississippi or Louisiana locations as well as other locations across the country. Canada locations do not accept bank debit cards as a form of credit identification. Debit Cards are acceptable for payment at the completion of your rental.
Also be advised that some Avis locations do not accept debit cards as a form of payment. Upon paying your rental with a Debit Card, Avis will generally request an authorization hold against your account for the estimated charges of the rental but reserves the right in its sole discretion to request extra value based on certain factors as we deem appropriate. Some exceptions may apply. THESE FUNDS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR USE. When the rental is over we will process the reversal but the bank may take time to post it back to the account.
If you fail to return the vehicle as agreed, Avis will obtain additional authorizations from your account to cover the rental charges.
Avis is not responsible for any returned checks or over-drafts based on this policy.
This policy applies to both U.S. residents and foreign renters. Positive identification in addition to your driver's license may be required.
In the United States, debit or check cards can be used at the end of the rental for payment of rental charges. For acceptable credit identification and payment methods in countries outside of the U.S., please search for the specific location's Terms and Conditions.
Note: Prepaid debit/gift cards are not acceptable methods of credit identification to pick up a car at any location. One of the above mentioned cards must be presented. Prepaid debit/gift cards are accepted at time of return only.
Avis rents to customers between the ages of 21-24 with an Avis-honored credit card and valid driver's license. At the time of reservation, we will automatically apply an additional $27-per-day underage surcharge in the U.S. and $35 per day in Canada for drivers 21-24. If you have any questions about underage driving restrictions, please contact Avis prior to your arrival at the rental counter.
Exceptions:
In New York State, the minimum age to rent is 18 with a $52-per-day surcharge for renters age 18-20 and a $35-per-day underage surcharge for renters age 21-24.
Michigan, will continue its minimum rental age of 18 with a $41-per-day surcharge for customers between the ages of 18-20 and a $28-per-day surcharge for customers between the ages of 21-24.
In Quebec, the minimum age to rent car groups A, B, C, D & E is 21 with an under age fee of $20 per day for renters age 21-24. For all other car groups, the minimum age is 25.
In Saskatchewan, the minimum age is 18. No underage fee applies.

First, contact the police (911). Always complete an Avis Accident/Incident Reportwhen the car has been involved in an accident or damaged. Contact Avis Roadside Assist at 800-354-2847. Then contact your personal auto insurance company and establish a claim for damage. If you are renting with a major credit card, you may want to contact their customer service department to determine if coverage is afforded through their collision program. You do not need to wait to receive our claim documents to report your claim to your personal insurance company and/or Credit Card Company
. The renter is responsible for any and all loss of or damage to the car resulting from any cause including but not limited to collision, rollover, theft, tire damage and vandalism, medical condition, flood, fire, hail or other acts of Nature. If you have accepted the Avis LDW coverage and there is no breach of contract violation, you will not be responsible for the damages.
Additionally, if we have the other party's contact information, we will pursue them and/or their insurance company for our damages if determined they were at fault. However, our pursuit of the other party does not absolve you from your contractual obligation with Avis. Other charges that could be incurred by the renter:
We made it even easier to get a copy of your rental receipt. You now have two ways in which you can obtain this information. You can select Get e-Receipt or Request Past Rentals from the top of the navigation on the homepage or you can login to your My Avis Account.
From the Get e-Receipt landing page, follow these steps:
First, select the country in which your reservation was made.
Second, enter one of two numbers that are associated with your rental (either Reservation Confirmation number or Rental Agreement number).
- Your Reservation Confirmation number is provided to you when your reservation is made. The confirmation number is an 8-digit code followed by two letters and one more number totaling 11 alpha/numeric characters (example: 12345678US1). Your reservation information was sent to your e-mail address which was identified while your reservation was created.
- Your Rental Agreement number is on the documents provided to you when you pick up your rental car. This is a nine digit number, excluding any letters or symbols (example: 123456789).
Third, fill in all the necessary information and then select the "Get Receipt" button to continue.

You can view your rental receipts after logging in to My Avis. Click the Get Receipt link located under the Past Rentals section. We will keep copies online for up to six months from date of vehicle return. If you need to access older receipts, please call 1-800-352-7900 for assistance.Please allow up to 7 days from date of vehicle return for a copy of the rental receipt to be available.

Navigation systems
Most of our vehicles do not come equipped with their own navigation systems. However, you can reserve our GPS Navigation unit at participating locations for a reasonable daily rate. Optional GPS units are displayed on Step 3 during your online reservation process.
Child Safety Seats
Available for infants and toddlers at most U.S. locations, Avis offers Child Safety Seats at a usual cost of $13.00/day or $65.00/week (5-7 days) with a maximum of $65.00/rental. Child safety seats will vary by type and brand depending upon the individual location. Child Safety Seats may be offered online at some locations, and the costs included in the Estimated Total. The charge may be confirmed at the rental counter when you pick up your vehicle and will be included in your rental agreement. Additionally, if changes are needed after completing the online reservation, only customer serviceor the counter agent can make modifications. Child seats must be returned to the original renting location or an additional $15 fee will apply to the rental. Failure to return the seat in the same condition as received (minus normal wear and tear) may result in a $50 additional charge.
Ski Racks and Snow Tires
Avis offers ski racks and snow tires on selected vehicles in some U.S. locations. Please call ahead and check with the rental location after reserving online, or call 800-633-3469.

Fuel Service Option
Save yourself time and frustration by adding our Fuel Service Option to your next online reservation. By selecting the Fuel Service Option, you can purchase a tank of gas directly from Avis at the time of rental, and avoid the hassle of searching for a gas station to fill the tank before returning the car. If the Fuel Service Option isn't exactly what you're looking for, choose one of the following refueling options at the time of rental:
Self-Service
Purchase fuel just prior to returning and return the car to Avis with a full tank of gas. If you choose this option, Avis will not charge you for fuel.
EZFuelTM and Fuel Service Charge
Driving under 75 miles? With our newest refueling service, customers who drive less than 75 miles pay a low flat fee for fuel and return the car without refueling. We'll automatically charge you a flat fee of $14.99, not reflected in your Estimated Total at the time of reservation on Avis.com. If you present a receipt for the purchase of fuel, the charge will be removed at the time of return.
EZFuel option is not available at all locations. Please contact your renting location to confirm the availability of this service.

At Avis, we strive to make everyone's rental experience as easy, safe and stress-free as possible. That's why, as a feature of our Avis Cares® Program, we provide a full range of products and services for our drivers and passengers with disabilities.
An authorized van seat removal may be requested to accommodate a customer-supplied device, such as a "stowaway", used to exit/enter the van or to allow enough space for a non-collapsible wheelchair/scooter.
Our visually impaired passengers can travel worry-free, too. Just make an advance reservation, arrive with a licensed driver at least 25 years old, and you'll be on your way.

Avis has a variety of partnerships including airlines, hotels and other select companies. Through these partnerships, customers can earn miles or points and enjoy special discounts. Please visit our Miles & Points Partners page for specific details pertaining to our partner offers.
When making reservations on Avis.com in the U.S. and Canada, Avis Preferred customers may include the Frequent Traveler partner name and membership number on the Rental Options page of the reservation process. Some airline partners require a flight number in conjunction with an Avis rental to qualify, and you will be notified of this step if that number is needed. If the rental qualifies for a credit, the appropriate information will be forwarded to the respective travel partner for processing.
To receive points for past reservations, customers who reserved without using a Wizard number can select "Request Miles/Points" from the Customer Service dropdown found in the header of the Avis.com homepage and fill out the required information pertaining to your past rental. For those customers who reserved with a Wizard number and have registered on Avis.com, simply login and click the "Add Miles/Points" link next to the past rental. Fill in the Frequent Traveler membership details and, if the rental qualifies for a credit, the information will be forwarded to the travel partner for processing.

Avis Preferred members who complete 12 rentals or spend $5,000 on base rentals plus optional products within a calendar year, will automatically earn Avis Preferred Plus status. Members who achieve Avis Preferred Plus status can receive a free, single car class upgrade upon availability in addition to other special reservation and offer benefits. Avis provides liability coverage for its vehicles as required by applicable law. In most instances, this will include coverage for the renter or authorized driver up to the financial responsibility limits of the applicable jurisdiction at no additional charge. In some states, the liability coverage provided is excess to any other applicable coverage. This means the renter's personal liability insurance is used first, and the Avis protection will not apply until the renter's or driver's insurance, if any, has been exhausted. Please check the rental agreement or nearest Avis reservation center regarding the applicability of automobile liability coverage to specific locations. You should also check with your own insurance company to determine the level of your protection under their policy.
Exceptions:
CALIFORNIA: Automobile Liability and Property Damage Protection is not included in the rental rate. The customer may provide automobile liability insurance through a personal insurance policy or may purchase Additional Liability Insurance.
MISSOURI: Avis does not provide Automobile Liability Insurance and Property Damage Protection unless the renter/authorized driver does not carry a personal automobile liability insurance policy. In that case, Avis will provide coverage up to the fFnancial Responsibility Limits (FRL) at no additional charge.
NEW YORK: Avis provides liability coverage for its vehicles as required by applicable law. In most instances, this will include coverage for the renter or authorized driver up to the Financial Responsibility Limits of the applicable jurisdiction at no additional charge.
TEXAS: Automobile Liability and Property Damage Protection is not included in the rental rate. The customer may provide automobile liability insurance through a personal insurance policy or may purchase Texas Automobile Rental Liability Insurance.
UTAH: Avis does not provide Automobile Liability Insurance and Property Damage Protection unless the renter or authorized driver does not carry a personal automobile liability insurance policy. Inthat case, Avis will provide this coverage up to the Financial Responsibility Limits (FRL) at no additional charge.
Avis offers several optional insurance plans and are available for an additional daily charge. Renters may (in many locations) purchase additional liability insurance at the time of rental. The Avis renter is responsible for all damage or theft of the Avis vehicle subject to certain exclusions contained in the Avis rental agreement.
For an additional fee, Avis will waive or limit the renter's liability through the purchase of a Loss Damage Waiver at the time of rental. In some cases, renters may be covered for loss or damage to the renter vehicle by their personal insurance or charge card. Such coverage may contain a deductible or may not be primary. Please check with your insurance company or credit card company before you rent.
Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
Renters may purchase loss damage waiver (LDW) that reduces the financial liability for loss or damage to the Avis car as long as they comply with the terms of the Avis rental agreement. Cost of LDW will vary by location, car group and rate. If you have rental car coverage through your personal insurance or charge card, LDW offers maximum protection while your personal insurance or charge card may contain a deductible.
Personal Effects Protection (PEP)
Personal Effects Protection insures the personal belongings of the renter and the immediate family members who are traveling with the renter. The maximum coverage is $600.00 per claim, with a maximum coverage for individuals of $1,800.00. Exceptions:
NEW YORK: Personal Effects Protection insures the personal belongings of the renter and the immediate family members who are traveling with the renter. The maximum coverage is $500.00 per claim, with a maximum coverage for individuals of $1,500.00.
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) provides accidental death benefits and emergency medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers in the Avis car.
The renter is covered 24 hours a day during the rental for the following:
-$175,000.00 accidental death
-$2,500.00 medical coverage for injuries due to an accident
-$250.00 for ambulance expenses
The passengers are covered while in the car for the following:
-$17,500.00 accidental death
-$2,500.00 medical coverage for injuries due to accident

PAI-Plus
PAI-Plus is designed to meet the needs of renters who require extended amounts of insurance coverage (i.e. visitors from non-U.S. countries).

ALI provides additional protection for bodily injury, death or property damage and increases the limits to $1,000,000 or $2,000,000 combined single limit depending on the location. When ALI is purchased, Avis will always provide the Financial Responsibility Limits (FRL) on a primary basis.

Preferred Members who have registered with Avis.com and have a My Avis profile can login to modify their protections/coverages. These changes will take a few days to process, but will automatically update in your profile and apply to future reservations.
No, but you are responsible for the vehicle in the event of damage. You should check with your respective insurance company to see if you have ample coverage while renting a vehicle. In the event you do not have proper coverage, Avis sells a variety of protection coverages for your rental.
The benefits of the coverages vary by location. If you have questions about a specific coverage, please check with the renting location or contact customer service. You may select the coverages available at a particular rental location during your online reservation process, or upon arrival at the rental location. Please keep in mind that you always have the opportunity to change your coverage selections at the counter when you pick up your car. You can also save your protections/coverages preferences on your My Avis or Preferred profile.
If an Avis vehicle is being used to transport a group (such as a team, camp, etc.), the group must provide Avis with their own group liability insurance. Please call 800-633-3469 for more information.
As of October 1, 2009, all vehicles in our U.S. fleet are designated as non-smoking cars. A Cleaning Fee of up to $250 may be applied to the cost of a rental, should this policy be violated. See Press Release

Avis does not have a strict pet policy, but please be sure to return your rental car in clean condition and free of pet hair, etc. to avoid cleaning fees.
One-Way Rentals:
Avis offers convenient one-way rentals at attractive rates. Pick up a car at one location and return it to another. Car type and availability vary by participating locations, and a drop-off charge may apply on certain rates.
Border Crossings:
Taking a car across a state border is generally not a problem. However, it's always best to inquire about any restrictions or fees that may apply if dropping the car at a different location. Inquire either at the location or simply contact us.

Hours of Operation:
Most Avis airport locations will remain open to meet incoming customers who have made advance reservations and who have encountered flight delays. If a customer is delayed, it is our policy to honor a reservation up to 16 hours beyond the stated pick-up time. If you anticipate a delay in picking up your car, Avis would greatly appreciate your notifying us at 800-633-3469 as soon as possible.
Hours of operation for a specific location can be found by selecting "Find a Location" under the Locations tab at the top of the page. Then, search for the location you're interested in.
If you plan to return your car prior to or after business hours, please make specific arrangements by calling the location where are you are to pick up or drop off your car.
Shuttle and Delivery Services:
At many airports, Avis offers complimentary courtesy bus transportation to and from the airline terminal and the Avis rental facility. For bus and shuttle information for a specific location, visit that location's detail page.
Certain Avis neighborhood locations may provide free local pickup and delivery if you are within five miles of the rental facility. These locations require 24 hours notice in order to facilitate this service. Please contact the location itself to confirm that transportation is offered.
Please be aware that Avis is unable to provide parking for personal vehicles while the owners of those vehicles are renting a car.

Some Avis locations are operated by or for the company. Others are operated by franchised independent licensees who own their own fleet of cars. Although each of these locations strives to offer the same high level of quality and service, occasionally some licensee-owned operations do not participate in some Avis promotions, special pricing activities, or company programs. In addition, licensee rental terms may vary from those at corporate locations.
Agency Operator
An Agency Operator is contracted to run and manage the growth and success of a designated Avis location on behalf of the company using corporate-owned cars, and agency operations may be operated out of the agent's premises or premises controlled by the company. Unlike a franchise that requires a significant capital expenditure and payment of ongoing royalties, an Agency Operator is authorized to rent Avis vehicles and rental agreements, with the operator's own staff, for which the operator earns a commission.

Avis does not have a strict pet policy, but please be sure to return your rental car in clean condition and free of pet hair, etc. to avoid cleaning fees.
Avis offers convenient one-way rentals at attractive rates. Pick up a car at one location and return it to another. Car type and availability vary by participating locations, and a drop-off charge may apply on certain rates.
Taking a car across a state border is generally not a problem. However, it's always best to inquire about any restrictions or fees that may apply if dropping the car at a different location. Inquire either at the location or simply contact us.
Into Canada:
Avis requires that each customer and additional driver meet the Avis minimum age requirement, present a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record, and present an Avis-honored charge card or cash rental qualification at the time of rental.
The driver's license must be valid at the time of rental, and remain valid throughout the rental period. All drivers must meet Avis' requirements. Driver's licenses accepted in the U.S. are:
If you intend to rent outside your home country, you may also be required to present an International Driver's Permit. International Driver's Permits are valid only if presented with the original local license. An International Driver's Permit it not acceptable by itself. In addition, at the time of rental, the renter, authorized driver or additional driver may be subject to an electronic DMV check or may be required to sign a declaration attesting that they have a valid license that is not currently suspended, revoked, expired, cancelled or surrendered. A temporary driver's license is acceptable only if it has no restrictions and is valid for the entire period of the rental. Individuals with learner's permits may not operate Avis vehicles. Additionally, if you intend to rent outside of your home country, Avis may require that you present a valid passport, as secondary form of identification at the time of your check-out.

Split Billing Option:
Avis also offers a split billing payment option which provides billing flexibility. Customers may split their rental charges on two separate credit/debit cards. In addition, corporate customers have the ability to charge counter products, optional services that are not covered as a company expense to a personal credit card. Customers who wish to split their rental charges on two separate credit/debit cards can choose to split the rental charges by one of the following ways:

Please note: Credit and debit cards used to pay online may not be acceptable at certain locations. Please check the terms and conditions on your reservation confirmation to be sure of acceptable cards at the location where you are picking up your rental. The credit or debit card presented at the counter must be identical to the one used to make the "Pay Now" reservation.
Debit Card Policies
Most U.S. locations accept bank debit cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo as credit identification at the time of rental if you are at least 25 years of age. In most cases, U.S. locations will perform a credit check for debit card renters to determine credit worthiness at the time of rental. The renter must meet Avis' minimum criteria in order to rent. Currently, at all U.S. and Canada locations, debit cards are not acceptable as credit identification at the time of rental for all makes and models identified in the Avis Signature Series and for certain other premium vehicles. Debit cards are also not acceptable as credit identification at the time of rental at locations in the Metropolitan NY Tri-State area, Hartford, CT, Philadelphia area, Mississippi or Louisiana locations as well as other locations across the country. Canada locations do not accept bank debit cards as a form of credit identification. Debit Cards are acceptable for payment at the completion of your rental.
Also be advised that some Avis locations do not accept debit cards as a form of payment. Upon paying your rental with a Debit Card, Avis will generally request an authorization hold against your account for the estimated charges of the rental but reserves the right in its sole discretion to request extra value based on certain factors as we deem appropriate. Some exceptions may apply. THESE FUNDS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR USE. When the rental is over we will process the reversal but the bank may take time to post it back to the account.
If you fail to return the vehicle as agreed, Avis will obtain additional authorizations from your account to cover the rental charges.
Avis is not responsible for any returned checks or over-drafts based on this policy.
This policy applies to both U.S. residents and foreign renters. Positive identification in addition to your driver's license may be required.
In the United States, debit or check cards can be used at the end of the rental for payment of rental charges. For acceptable credit identification and payment methods in countries outside of the U.S., please search for the specific location's Terms and Conditions.
Note: Prepaid debit/gift cards are not acceptable methods of credit identification to pick up a car at any location. One of the above mentioned cards must be presented. Prepaid debit/gift cards are accepted at time of return only.
Avis rents to customers between the ages of 21-24 with an Avis-honored credit card and valid driver's license. At the time of reservation, we will automatically apply an additional $27-per-day underage surcharge in the U.S. and $35 per day in Canada for drivers 21-24. If you have any questions about underage driving restrictions, please contact Avis prior to your arrival at the rental counter.
Exceptions:
In New York State, the minimum age to rent is 18 with a $52-per-day surcharge for renters age 18-20 and a $35-per-day underage surcharge for renters age 21-24.
Michigan, will continue its minimum rental age of 18 with a $41-per-day surcharge for customers between the ages of 18-20 and a $28-per-day surcharge for customers between the ages of 21-24.
In Quebec, the minimum age to rent car groups A, B, C, D & E is 21 with an under age fee of $20 per day for renters age 21-24. For all other car groups, the minimum age is 25.
In Saskatchewan, the minimum age is 18. No underage fee applies.
Government Personnel (civilian or military) minimum age policy is as follows:
For Personnel (FEMA, U.S. Postal Dept., Navy and Army) not using the Government Leisure Pass, minimum age is
* 18 years (No underage surcharge will apply) with Government Travel or Purchase order
* 21 years (No underage surcharge will apply) without Travel or Purchase order
When using the Government Leisure Pass the renter is subject to underage fees as specified by the renting location.
Renters between the ages of 21-24 may not rent vehicles in the following car classes:
Additional Driver
Additional driver fees will not be reflected in your estimated total when you book your reservation in advance. They will be calculated at the rental counter when the vehicle is picked up.
The following individuals, if 25 years of age or older and in possession of a valid driver's license, may drive the car with the renter's prior permission and are exempt from Additional Driver fees:
A maximum of 2 additional drivers can complete an additional driver form* for a rental. To save time, you can print out this form, complete and bring it with you to the counter. Additional drivers who can drive the vehicle with the renter's permission (see Exceptions above) are not included in this requirement.
* Note: You need Adobe Acrobatto view this form.For all U.S. states other than CA, NV and NY, the charge for additional drivers is $13 per day per additional driver, with a maximum charge of $65 per rental per driver. The additional driver fee in New York is $3 per day per additional driver. The additional driver fee in Nevada is $11 per day per additional driver, with a maximum charge of $65. There is no additional driver fee in California.Terms and Conditions
The applicable terms and conditions will vary by location. Be sure to check the bottom of your reservation confirmation for the specific terms and conditions for the location the reservation applies to. Prior to making a reservation, you may search for a specific location and view its current policies. Avis recommends contacting the location directly to answer inquiries concerning the specific rental facility.
Length of Rental
Reservations for less than one day are accepted, however a minimum charge of one day applies to rentals of less than 24 hours. In some cases, a minimum rental period is required for the selected rate to apply. In other cases, a rate may be associated with a minimum charge, which applies even if the car is returned early.
Avis offers special monthly rates for long-term rentals of 59 to 330 days. These rates generally include a substantial free mileage allowance.
Discounts
An Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number may be found in newspapers, magazines or television ads, by clicking banner ads on websites, or on Avis.com.
If you're a member of an organization or company that partners with Avis, please contact that organization directly and ask whether it has an Avis Worldwide Discount number you may use for your rental.
Enter your AWD in the field labeled "Avis Worldwide Discount Number (AWD) or Rate Code" on the homepage, or during the first step of the reservation process. We'll use the AWD you enter to calculate your rental rate and benefits.
Coupons
Coupons may be entered on the Homepage by clicking the Add a Coupon link at the bottom of the widget. Discounts for dollars off, percentage off, free days and extra days will be reflected in the prices quoted on Avis.com. Upgrades and additional driver discounts will be handled at the rental counter when the vehicle is picked up.
Rates
In most cases, the minimum rental charge is for one day and is based on a 24-hour period. . Beyond the 24-hour period, an hourly rate will be calculated as three-fourths (¾) the daily rate plus $.01 for daily and weekend rates and one-half (½) the daily rate plus $.01 for weekly rates. For example, a daily rate of $30.00 per day would equate to an hourly rate of $22.51 per day and a weekly rate $30.00 per day would equate to an hourly rate of $15.01. If a rental exceeds a 24-hour period by 1.5 hours, a 2-day charge will apply.
Generally, "weekend rates" apply on rentals beginning after 11:59 AM on a Thursday, and require the car to be returned by 11:59 PM on the following Monday. If the vehicle is returned later, the weekend rate will not apply to the rental.

Changes to Reservations
Please be aware that any changes to your original rental may impact your rate. If you wish to extend any rental once you have picked up your vehicle, in the U.S. you must contact an Avis reservation agent at 1-800-230-4898.
Please note that at U.S. and Canadian corporate-operated locations, a service fee of $10 will apply and your original per-day rental rate may change. Your reservation agent will provide all details when you call. If you don't call to notify Avis that you will be keeping the vehicle longer then expected within 7 hours of your originally scheduled return time to extend your rental, a $10/day late fee will apply.
Also, if you choose not to return the car on or before your originally scheduled return date, we will place an additional hold on your debit or credit card to cover the additional expected rental charges. Upon your return of the car, the holds will be released, and the actual cost of the rental will be charged. Your bank may take up to two weeks to post the released credit hold to your card. Unfortunately, we cannot be held responsible for any returned checks due to debit card hold processing.
To extend a rental in another country, we will be happy to accommodate your request if possible, however, we recommend contacting the rental location directly.
Mileage
Most Avis rental rates include either unlimited mileage or a pre-designated number of included miles per day/week/month as part of the rate structure. If you exceed the number of pre-designated miles, a mileage charge will apply for the additional miles driven. If there is a mileage allowance in conjunction with an additional mileage charge, you will be advised at the time you request your rate information
On the Avis.com homepage, select the View/Modify/Cancel link from the Reservations tab at the top of the page. Enter your Last Name and your Reservation Confirmation Number and click the Find Reservation button.
On the next page, select the link listed next to your found reservation to either View, Modify, or Cancel. You will then be able to view your reservation, modify rental details, or cancel the reservation.
For those customers that have registered on Avis.com and have a My Avis profile, simply use the "Login" link located at the top navigation of the Home Once you are logged in and on the My Account page, you simply need to click the reservation link.
After any modification or cancellation, Avis sends a confirmation to the e-mail address entered for that reservation.
Absolutely. Travel agents may book Avis via major Global Distribution Systems including Sabre, Apollo, Worldspan and Amadeus. The Avis two-letter code in the GDS system is ZI.
What is the No Show (NSF) or Non-Cancellation Fee policy for Avis?
Only the following types of Avis reservations require a valid credit card at the time the reservation is made and have a non-cancellation fee*:

The fee may vary by location and car group from $10 plus taxes and surcharges to one full day's rental fee plus taxes and surcharges. Specific fee information is provided to the customer during the reservation process on avis.com, the Avis reservations center or by the Avis Reservation Service Agent.
To avoid the non-cancellation fee, such reservations must be cancelled 24 hours prior to the scheduled pick up time. Reservations may be cancelled on Avis.com, or by calling Avis at 800-230-4898.
Avis Wizard and Preferred members with a credit card listed in their profile will not be required to enter a credit card at time of booking as the credit card in their profile will be used. In the event such customers reserve an Avis car requiring a credit card at time of booking and do not cancel prior to the scheduled pick up and fail to rent the car, the non-cancellation fee disclosed at the time of reservation will be charged.
In the event of flight cancellations, Avis will not charge a non-cancellation fee as long as a flight number and airline were provided in the reservation prior to scheduled pick up.
Our cancellation policies vary, depending on the type of reservation you've made:
Was your credit card charged for the rental at reservation time on avis.com?
If you wish to cancel before your rental pick-up time, you must cancel and request a refund online. Once cancelled, we will credit you within approximately seven business days. Credits will be applied to the same card with which you prepaid. You will incur a $50 processing fee if you choose to cancel a prepaid reservation before the rental, and a $150 fee after the rental pick-up time has passed. If you return the vehicle before the original return date (early return), you will not be refunded any portion of the payment.
Did you make a reservation without providing credit card information?
If you make a reservation without a credit card and you no longer need to rent, please cancel your reservation as soon as possible before your scheduled pick-up time.
Did you make a reservation with a travel agent or online booking agent?
The travel agency or online booking agent "owns" any reservation you originally made with them, so their reservation cancellation processes and policies apply.
